Health Professions Residential Academic Program serves 1st and 2nd year students with interests in the life sciences areas of physiology, biology, neuroscience and related fields. The program offers a variety of courses that are typically taken by students in cognate majors and who have an interest in satisfying prerequisites for admission to healthcare professional programs after graduating. The primary requirement for residence in Kittredge West hall and the HPRAP is for each student to enroll in a minimum of one HPRAP course per academic year. A second program requirement is the expectation that each student participate in HPRAP sponsored events as their schedules allow, as developing a sense of community and connecting with students who possess similar interests is essential to academic success.
In fall students can either sign up and receive a credit for or drop in to an evening lecture series featuring practicing clinicians and medical researchers. Managed by the Clinician-in-Residence HPRAP has an exclusive shadowing program at two comprehensive care clinics, workshops on study skills and test-taking, no-cost tutoring by advanced students, and we offer a variety of community-building activities throughout the year, including fieldtrips, occasional dinners, and weekly coffee social time in our lobby community area. In spring semester a series of campus lab tours is offered.
While the Health Professions RAP invites any College of Arts and Sciences student regardless of major who is interested in exploring healthcare careers to join us, our curriculum is best suited for IPHY, MCDB, and NRSC majors. Students who are primarily interested in social or environmental sciences or engineering are encouraged to explore other residential programs that are better tailored to their interests.
There is no application to participate. Students indicate their interest in the HPRAP by designating Kittredge West as their preferred choice of residence hall. An annual fee of $425 is charged to all residents of Kittredge West and to any non-hall residents who also wish to participate and take classes in fall and spring semesters.
